Sweet furniture

In our house, candyfloss is part of the furniture (well, not literally). Because we work with the sweet, sticky stuff every day, it has really become just another brick in our wall of family, house, home and business.

When we entertain, we go to great lengths (well I do....hubby just helps) to find just the right treats for the occasion, and to be honest, candyfloss is never one of them - even though we usually have a garage full of it. Yes literally.

I sometimes wonder if my friends and family think I am stingy or just plain rude, when I do not have any candyfloss on offer at a party, but the product we make and sell, has become a commodity, and lost all its "sweetness" in our home.

When people ask me "what do you do for a living?", and I answer that I make and sell candyfloss, the first thing they ask, is if I eat a lot of it.....well, no. I stopped eating it about 19 years ago, and we have been in business for just over 19 years.

The only time we taste the fluffy stuff, is when we add new flavours! And then we do it because we have to.

My kids will occasionally ask for a serving of fluff, specially when friends come over (although I'm sure its at the prompt of the friend, which I don't mind, by the way), but even then, they don't usually finish what they started, and I will find little bits of half-eaten, melted or shriveled candyfloss, rolled up in their little packets, like sugar mummies, hidden behind a book or under the fruit bowl in the kitchen.

Don't get me wrong, we really do LOVE the stuff! Just not as an edible....
